TIME WITH YOU

“Time with You” is an original song by Merle and his friend, guitarist Sterling Rhodes.

This song represents a bit of a new artistic direction for Merle and the boys.  It is about physics and philosophy.

Time with You

by Merle Hazard and Sterling Rhodes

When I was a young boy, I studied hard in school

I really liked mathematics, and I was no one’s fool

But when I learned to drive a car, I studied it no more

Girls were fun, and doing homework was a bore

So how I got a girl like you, is quite a mystery

You did college out at Caltech, then you went to MIT

I’m just a singing cowboy, and you’re a super brain

With a body that is driving me insane

CHORUS:

The Hindus say that time is like a cycle, with no end

And everything that’s come around will come around again.

I can’t say what time is, like the Hindus try to do

I just know I want to spend my time with you

I know sometimes I bore you, I can see it in your eyes

I’m always thinking “Grammy,” you’re thinking “Nobel Prize”

You tell me of string theory, I'm stringing my guitar

You’re at a conference, I’m singing in a bar

CHORUS:

Isaac Newton said time’s absolute, flowing strictly on its own

Steadily advancing, moving forward like a drone.

I can’t say what time is, like Newton tried to do

I just know, I want to spend my time with you

Some day I’ll write a paper for you, boring, dense and long

And you can write me hurky, jerky, two-bit country songs

We’ll be quite a duo, there’s no need to rehearse

I’ll take the chorus, you’ll take the universe.

CHORUS:

Albert Einstein said that time’s wrapped up with space and energy

No reference frame is absolute, that’s relativity.

I can’t say what time is, like old Einstein tried to do

I just know I want to spend my time with you.

My time with you.
